Bats only become a problem when they decide to use an attic, gable vent, chimney or other area of a human dwelling for roosting or raising young. Most people do not tolerate that idea very well, and it becomes necessary to evict the bats and repair the structure as needed to prevent them from entering in the future

Bat exclusion is the process used by wildlife control professionals to remove bat colonies from houses, commercial buildings, schools, churches, etc.

When performed correctly, bat exclusion will achieve two goals: the removal of all bats that are living inside the structure and a completely sealed structure that prevents bats from re-entering.

Bat Inspection- This is to determine the species of colonizing bats and if young are present, active entry points and potential re-entry points, post-exclusion. This step will allow a bat control professional to give the customer an accurate quote to "bat-proof" the entire structure. Be cautious of any business that will give an estimate over the phone.

Bat Removal- Colony removal is achieved with mechanical devices called "check valve" or "bat valve". This is a one-way door that will allow bats the ability to exit the structure but, not re-enter the structure.

Bat Exclusion- Bat exclusion is extremely tedious work. Technicians must work within very small tolerances. They must be very detail-oriented and very thorough. Failure to properly seal one ¼ inch gap can result in a failed exclusion.

Bat control is a unique field. It requires specialized training, techniques, attention to detail and extensive knowledge of bat biology and behavior.

Effective bat control requires a full site inspection, and 100% of the structure must be properly sealed, including gaps as small as 1/4 inch wide. This can obviously become quite labor intensive. In some instances the primary entrance/exit holes are the only access points available, and basic repairs and an exclusion may be sufficient.

Once the bats are removed exclusion work MUST be done to prevent the bats from returning to the roost site. Any bat control professional should perform this task and provide a warranty with their work once completed.
